About
This is an attempt to share with you some of the things I have learned from studying the history of Piddington village life. There have been some changes over time, and yet, many things have remained the same. We are always dependent upon the weather, the seasons and the ups and downs of family life.
Why do this now? Having spent many years undertaking this research, this website and diary blog has been put together in just a couple of days with the aim of adding something else to Piddington village life in these difficult times. This process is all new to me: my first website and experience of writing a blog. I am learning as I go along. Please be patient with any technology glitches. I plan to add to the diary regularly, particularly while we are largely confined to our homes. I have had an interest in economic and social history for many years, particularly of rural communities. My motivation for studying Piddington started with Gwith Cottage and the families who had lived and worked here as wheelwrights for well over 200 years. We are newcomers to the village, having moved to Piddington from Brill less than 45 years ago. I still have a lot to learn about the Piddington of old. If anybody can add to or challenge anything that appears, please let me know. Many of the people living in the village today may well recognise the family names of their ancestors I refer to in the 19th century. I apologise in advance if my characterisation causes offence.
